Why I'm Sharing the Real Stories Behind Sex Work
Reclaiming female voices, challenging stigma, and creating change through honest storytelling.
When I started this blog, I didn’t really know why I was writing it. I just had a deep sense that there was value in sharing women’s stories, especially those rarely told or written down. Women have been erased from history so often that now, more than ever, it’s vital we share our real-life experiences—no matter how messy, complicated, beautiful, or painful they may be.
In an era where everything can be recorded, saved, and shared, giving voice and value to our lives—simply by living, reflecting, and expressing—is powerful. When I first began, I needed an outlet. A way to give some credit to the last twenty years of my life. I needed to honour it somehow. But as I continue writing, the purpose has become clearer.
This blog is not just about me anymore.
I intend to write more deeply about sex work and the stories behind it, from both men and women, all over the world. I also plan to explore the history of sex work, because for too long, conversations about sex, especially women’s sexuality, have been controlled and narrated by men. Often, women are made to feel ashamed of their own desires, choices, and sexual power. I refuse to be part of that narrative anymore.
I own my sex life.
Yes, I have my ups and downs with it (pun intended). But don’t we all have complex relationships with different parts of our lives?
When I read through my older posts, I sometimes catch myself thinking, “Damn, I sound really unhappy.” And yes, sometimes I am. But I’m not ashamed of my lifestyle. If I were, I wouldn’t be so open about it. The things I consider “failings” in life don’t come from being an escort—they come from allowing myself to get too distracted from my other dreams, from not using my time or money as wisely as I could have.
For instance, I wish I had started writing sooner. I certainly had the time. But I was too concerned with what others would think. I let their opinions matter more than my own. And for a while, I lost myself in that.
So what’s next?
The future of this blog is to explore real, raw, and honest stories from sex workers—showcasing the full spectrum, not just the dark or the glossy highlights. I want to paint a fuller, more balanced picture of the oldest trade in the world.
It baffles me how much judgment still exists around this industry, especially when you consider everything else going on in the world: war, poverty, racism, disease, environmental collapse… and yet women’s bodies are still up there as one of the most debated topics in media and politics.
We can do better.
Yes, we should want more for women than having to sell their bodies to survive. But we should also want more for humanity in general.
That’s why I want to embrace the full truth of sex work—why women do it, why it’s hard to leave, and what healing looks like afterward. My goal is to eventually set up a charity that helps women around the world find alternative paths. While I seemingly chose this lifestyle, I understand my situation is vastly different from that of women and girls in places like Thailand and India, where there are far fewer choices and much more hardship.
When I travel to those places, I’m reminded just how important it is to find a new way forward.
So I ask you, dear reader, to remain open-minded while reading this blog. Support this journey—support the mission—by subscribing, sharing, and being part of the conversation. Your support helps me build a platform that can be used to educate, empower, and offer real alternatives to those who need them most.
And to the women in the industry who may be reading this—if you have a story you want to share, reach out. This space is for all of us.
